Heath Week 2024: Archaeological Tour Of Woodbury Castle an Iron Age Hill Fort
Archaeological Tour Of Woodbury Castle an Iron Age Hill Fort
Join Cressida Whitton from Devon County Historic Environment Team for an archaeology walk around Woodbury Castle an Iron Age hillfort, and one of around only 35 in Devon and it was a large defended enclosure with large, multiple ramparts, which contained a few round houses and was probably used as a shelter and gathering place by the wider community. It has large, multiple ramparts. The guided archaeology walk will take a circular route around the outside and Interior of the fort, pausing to look at the reconstructions of Iron Age life found on the three information panels. We’ll also look at the 1970’s Excavation evidence and later Geophysical Survey research.
This activity will be based at Woodbury Castle but if possible please use the bigger Estuary View Car Park across the road to avoid the small car park at Woodbury Castle becoming congested. Priority is given to those with accessibility issues at Woodbury Castle Car Park. Thank you in advance!
