Becoming a Friend of the Common is one of the easiest and most meaningful ways to support the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust. When you sign up, you’ll receive monthly updates about the wildlife, landscapes, and projects you care about plus news, events, volunteering opportunities, and behindthescenes stories from the team who look after these special places.
We also want our Friends to help shape the future – keep your eye on the newsletter as we often have opportunities for you to share your views and aspirations for our work.
Whether you visit often, live locally, or simply love these landscapes from afar, we’d love to keep in touch.

Get Active
- Run, walk or cycle a route you love — whether it’s a 5k, a halfmarathon or a longdistance challenge with friends.
- Take on a sponsored hike across the Heaths or along the Otter Estuary trails
- Organise a team challenge at work — steps, miles or even a monthlong “movement for nature” goal.
Bring People Together
- Host a bake sale with friends, neighbours or colleagues (bonus points for naturethemed treats!).
- Run a quiz night, music evening or coffee morning at your local hall, pub or community centre.
- Organise a bringandbuy sale, plant swap, or secondhand book stall.
Celebrate Something Special
- Set up a birthday fundraiser instead of receiving gifts.
- Mark a personal milestone — a graduation, retirement or anniversary — by inviting donations in place of presents.
- Fundraise in memory of someone who loved the Heaths or Estuary.
At Work or School
- Hold a dressdown day or themed fancydress day.
- Organise a staff raffle or office bakeoff.
- Run a school mufti day, sponsored silence or obstacle course.
Make It Your Own
Whatever you choose, large or small, every fundraiser helps us care for the Pebblebed Heaths and Otter Estuary and keep them special for wildlife and people. If you’re planning an event on the reserves themselves, please check whether you need permission first — we’re always happy to help.

Events
Discover a wide range of activities across the Pebblebed Heaths NNR at any time of the year. From feature events, such as Heath Week and Wetland Weekender, to seasonal events in collaboration with local communities, visit our ‘What’s On’ page for all the latest ways to join us – there is always something on.

Youth Rangers
Do you want to gain skills and experience in nature conservation and volunteer alongside like-minded people? Join the Pebblebed Youth Rangers!

The Pebblebed Youth Ranger programme gives young people aged 13-17 a chance to develop a deeper understanding and connection with the Pebblebed Heaths National Nature Reserve, as well as developing practical environmental and personal skills.

School & Group Visits
All schools and youth groups planning a visit to the Heaths are encouraged to get in touch well in advance. This helps us make sure your activities are suitable for the location and won’t overlap with conservation work or other events. We’re always happy to offer suggestions and help each group get the very most out of their time on the heaths and estuary.
