Support us

Your donation helps protect some of Devon’s most precious natural places, from lowland heaths to saltmarsh, mudflats, rivers and woodland. These landscapes support rare plants, endangered wildlife and the everyday joy of nearly one million visits each year.

By giving today, you’re helping us care for these habitats, keep paths and access safe, support learning and research, and ensure the Heaths and Estuary continue to thrive in the face of climate change and growing visitor pressure.

Every gift makes a difference. Thank you for being part of this work.

Protect wildlife and fragile habitats through skilled, science-led conservation

Maintain safe, year-round access for walkers, riders, families and local communities

Provide events, learning and volunteering opportunities that deepen people’s connection to nature

Monitor key species and respond quickly to ecological change

Care for heritage sites, from Bronze Age barrows to restored estuary landscapes

Plan for the future, building the resilience needed to meet climate and population challenges head-on

Together, your support helps the Pebblebed Heaths and Otter Estuary remain vibrant, welcoming and wellcared for, now and for generations to come.

Smarter Grazing with GPS Cattle Collars

A donorfunded innovation is transforming how we manage the Pebblebed Heaths. Their gift enabled us to purchase solarpowered GPS cattle collars and a new cattle crush, allowing our rarebreed herds to graze in a far more targeted, lowimpact way.

This smarter grazing approach protects sensitive habitats, improves conditions for species like the Southern Damselfly, and enhances animal welfare and staff safety. It’s a powerful example of how a single contribution can deliver practical tools that benefit wildlife, people and the longterm health of the heathland.

However you choose to give, your support helps us protect this rare landscape for the wildlife and people who depend on it. Make a one-off donation for an immediate, flexible boost to our work, set up a regular gift to give us the stability to plan ahead and care for the Heaths and Estuary all year round, or consider leaving a gift in your will to help protect this special place for generations to come. Explore the options below to find the way of giving that’s right for you.

A oneoff donation is a brilliant way to make an immediate difference. Every gift – large or small – helps us respond to the needs of the Heaths and Estuary right now, whether that’s repairing wellused paths, supporting species surveys, restoring habitats, or creating opportunities for people to connect with nature.

Your generosity gives our team the flexibility to act where it’s needed most, when it’s needed most. The carpark is clearly identified with an entrance sign. There is a 2.2m height restriction in place. The car park has a tarmac entrance splay with the main parking area formed of a gravel surface. There are three blue badge holder bays. Dog waste bins and cycle racks are provided. A visitor information point and a viewing area overlook the estuary and provide benches and further informational signs. A sloped footpath leads down to the nature reserve footpaths and the minor road. There are no steps between the car park and the footpaths. The paths are surfaced with self-binding gravel.

When you set up a regular gift, you’re helping us:

  • Care for fragile habitats every month of the year
  • Maintain paths, car parks and access so people can enjoy the Heaths and Estuary safely
  • Support wildlife monitoring, education and community engagement
  • Spend less time fundraising and more time on conservation

Remembering the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust in your will is a powerful way to make a lasting difference to this wild landscape.

Your gift will help the reserve to thrive, protect the rare species who make it their home and create a space that provides for both people and wildlife into the future. If you decide to leave a gift to Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust in your will, we would love to hear from you so we may thank you and keep you updated on our activities, if you wish.

Please note that we cannot offer legal or financial advice – we strongly recommend you obtain your own independent professional advice when creating your will. If you would like to change your will and add our charity as one of your beneficiaries, ask a solicitor to help you complete a codicil and then keep it safe, along with your Will.

Local families spend countless hours every year exploring the Pebblebed Heaths and enjoying the Otter Estuary.

We are often asked about donations in memory of beloved family members for whom spending time on the reserves was an important part of their lives

Please speak to us if you would like to make a gift in memory of a loved one or donate a funeral collection towards our work. You can reach Claire Jones, our Fundraising Manager, at claire.jones@pebblebedheaths.org.uk or 01395 443 881.

The Pebblebed Heaths National Nature Reserve attracts over one million visitors every year, contributing to Devon’s tourism income and to the local economy. We face significant challenges with the increased usage of our sites and manage the fine balance between protecting the reserve for nature and enabling access for people. Climate change, coastal erosion and significant changes to landscape funding since leaving the EU further contribute to the challenges we face.

Support from our business community is critical. For businesses who value the reserve or whose customers, clients or staff visit for recreation purposes, the condition of the Pebblebed Heaths National Nature Reserve and its accessibility is critical. Local hotels, B&Bs, shops, restaurants, pubs, activity providers and tourist attractions can support the reserve and help us to look after this iconic part of East Devon.

Partnerships with like-minded businesses, donors and funders are critical to achieve our ambitions for the future. We deeply appreciate your interest in our work.
